FRV Services Australia has proposed the Armidale East Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), a large-scale energy storage project with a capacity of 158 MW / 1,440 MWh.
The project is planned for a site approximately 16 kilometres east of Armidale, within the Tamworth Regional Council area and the New England Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).
The development will comprise a range of infrastructure required to support the operation of the battery storage facility, including:
- A 158 MW / 1,440 MWh Battery Energy Storage System, incorporating battery containers, inverters, transformers, cooling equipment (if required), and fire suppression systems.
- Switch rooms and an onsite substation.
- A switchyard and associated electrical infrastructure.
- A new access road to the project site.
- Parking areas, a site office, and operational amenities.
The Armidale East BESS will connect to the National Electricity Market (NEM) via Transgrid’s existing north-running 330 kV overhead transmission line, which feeds into the Armidale Substation. The project will connect directly to this network through new overhead electrical cabling.
