The Bendemeer Renewable Energy Hub is a proposed large-scale renewable energy development by Athena Energy, located at Bendemeer in northern New South Wales within the New England Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).
The project will comprise the construction, operation and eventual decommissioning of a 280 MW solar farm, a 150 MW / 300 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and supporting infrastructure. In addition, a proposed 316 MW wind farm forms part of the broader renewable energy hub, with approvals for the wind farm to be pursued through a separate assessment process.
The solar and battery storage component of the project will include:
- A 257 MW solar farm.
- A 150 MW / 300 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
- New access roads and internal road networks.
- Underground and above-ground electrical cabling.
- An onsite substation and associated grid connection infrastructure.
- Operations, maintenance and other supporting facilities.
