ACEN Australia is proposing the Birriwa Solar Farm and Battery Project, comprising a 600-megawatt (MW) solar farm and a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 900 MW / 2.8 gigawatt-hours (GWh).

The BESS may be configured as either a centralised system or a direct current (DC)-coupled system integrated with the solar farm.

The project is proposed for Birriwa, approximately 19 kilometres south-east of Dunedoo within the Mid-Western Regional Council local government area. The site is located within the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) in New South Wales.

The project is intended to connect to the National Electricity Market (NEM) via the proposed Central-West Orana REZ Merotherie Energy Hub, which is being developed by EnergyCo.
