Illawarra Renewable Energy Zone (REZ)

The Illawarra Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) is a strategic clean energy initiative that will transform the Illawarra into a major renewable energy, storage and low-carbon manufacturing hub. Unlike traditional REZs located in regional areas, the Illawarra REZ focuses on integrating rooftop solar, home batteries, community batteries, commercial solar installations and future grid-scale infrastructure within an urban and industrial environment. By leveraging existing electricity networks, port facilities, industrial precincts and a highly skilled workforce, the REZ aims to deliver reliable, affordable and low-emissions energy while supporting the growth of industries such as green hydrogen, green steel, advanced manufacturing and clean energy supply chains.
