Santos, an Australian‑owned company, emphasises partnering with local industry and Indigenous communities to support long‑term business viability and deliver the economic and environmental benefits of natural gas across Australia and Asia. It plans to develop natural gas reserves in the Narrabri area, with the Narrabri Gas Project capable of supplying up to half of NSW’s gas needs. The project has been approved by the NSW and Commonwealth governments and the Independent Planning Commission following extensive community consultation.
The project will progressively develop up to 850 wells linked to processing facilities at Leewood and Bibblewindi, along with surface facilities and supporting infrastructure. The Narrabri gas field, located in the Gunnedah Basin about 600 km northwest of Sydney within PEL 238, contains an estimated 1.8 TCF of gas. Full development is expected to produce around 200 TJ/day over roughly 25 years, supplying the NSW market via pipeline.
