Alinta Energy is progressing approvals for the Oven Mountain Pumped Hydro Energy Storage Project, an off‑river scheme located between Armidale and Kempsey in the New England REZ. The project involves constructing and operating a hydro‑electric system using two off‑river reservoirs—an upper and lower storage—on an ephemeral tributary of the Macleay River.
The project is intended to support decarbonisation of the National Electricity Market by enabling up to 1,600 MW of new renewable generation, improving grid reliability and affordability as the system transitions to cleaner energy.
