Transport for NSW has awarded John Holland a $322 million contract to deliver the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 Enabling Works. This includes a new 320‑metre bridge over the Parramatta River between Wentworth Point and Melrose Park, with approaches totalling 1.3 km. The bridge will use a long‑span cast‑in‑situ balanced‑cantilever design with only two river piers, reducing impacts on boats and protecting the marine environment. It is the first major Parramatta River crossing built in nearly 40 years and will also deliver upgrades to nearby public spaces such as Archer Park.
Stage 2 will connect Stage 1 and the Parramatta CBD to Sydney Olympic Park via Camellia, Rydalmere, Ermington, Melrose Park and Wentworth Point, improving transport links for surrounding communities. Bridge construction is scheduled to begin in late 2025 and finish in early 2028.
