Sydney Southern Ring

Sydney Ring South is a proposed high-voltage transmission project intended to strengthen electricity supply into Sydney, Wollongong and Newcastle by addressing network constraints into south-west Sydney and the Illawarra. The preferred option under assessment includes upgrades to the existing network and a potential new 500kV transmission line from Bannaby to South Western Sydney (South Creek). The project has been identified by AEMO as part of the long-term development pathway needed to support growing demand, electrification, renewable energy integration and coal generation retirements.
